Get there early! Seriously, this place fills up fast! Kishimoto is a small Japanese restaurant on Commercial Drive, not far from the skytrain station. I’ve been here only once before but a friend reminded me of it and I was on a mission to return. I think it was even better than I remembered!
To get a table, we lined up around 4:45 and sure enough around 15 people lined up after us. No one questioned it, they just knew that’s how this place operates. The service staff greeted us with smiles and within a minute the entire restaurant had been sat.
Now let’s get to the food! The presentation was on point with nice little touches, daikon flowers, real flowers, shiso leaves, beautiful plates. We even had an aburi salmon that came in a glass dome with smoke in it. Next level! For our table of four, we definitely indulged…and kept indulging. It isn’t super cheap but if you don’t eat fancy sushi that often then it’s totally worth it. The sashimi was beautiful and the rolls were quite nice.
Overall I highly recommend this place and I had a really pleasant experience, both with the food and the service.
Cheers,
The Simmering Pot
I’ve been to Kishimoto. My son lives in Vancouver and he took me there… yes we lined up early… Great sushi and sashimi. I love ‘aburi’ sushi, torch seared pressed ones. Warm sushi melt in mouth… I’d love to go there again and try the smoked oshi!
